The Tody family, Todidae, consists of 5 species and is entirely confined to the Greater Antilles. It is believed to have originated in a Central American stock now extinct. The Jamaican Tody is locally known as "Robin Redbreast".

Like all of Jamaica's endemic wildlife, it is protected by the Wildlife Protection Act.
