COCKPIT COUNTRY :
Cockpit Country Protected Area (CCPA) . . .
Excludes Heritage

Parrot

On page 6 of the Prime Minister's speech, it reads:

"Mr. Speaker, let me hasten to add that there are other factors that should be
taken into account in defining the areas to be protected. Mr. Speaker, we
definitely took these factors into account. The Cabinet therefore in determining
the boundary took into account:

  • the closed broadleaf forest cover/primary forest
  • the rich biodiversity
  • the hydrology
  • important historical, cultural sites"
  • As shown by the higher-resolution map created by Forestry Department on June 18, 2018, the (Proposed Boundary) of the Cockpit Country Protected Area (CCPA) excludes numerous heritage sites identified by the Jamaica National Heritage Trust's 2009 Report: Cockpit Country Heritage Survey.
